Los Angeles, CA – Two Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters sustained minor injuries Tuesday after their fire apparatus was involved in a crash while responding to a structure fire, officials confirmed.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the emergency vehicle overturned during the collision, leaving the fire apparatus heavily damaged near a commercial area in Los Angeles. Photos released by the department showed the truck lying on its side along a sidewalk outside a storefront.
Both injured firefighters were transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation. Officials said their injuries were considered minor. No members of the public were injured in the incident.
The identities of the firefighters have not been released as officials work to notify family members.
According to LAFD, the apparatus was actively responding to a structure fire at the time of the crash. Additional details about how the collision occurred, including whether another vehicle was involved, were not immediately released Tuesday evening.
The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the crash.
Emergency response vehicle crashes remain particularly dangerous due to the size and weight of fire apparatuses, especially when operating under urgent response conditions through city streets and intersections.
Images from the scene showed firefighters surrounding the overturned vehicle while crews worked to secure the area. Traffic impacts near the crash site were not immediately detailed by officials.
