Dorchester County, SC – A Summerville man was arrested early Tuesday morning after deputies reportedly discovered a significant amount of suspected methamphetamine during a traffic stop in the Knightsville area.

According to the Dorchester County Sheriffโ€™s Office, the incident occurred Tuesday at approximately 1:37 a.m. near Central Avenue and Roberts Road while deputies were conducting proactive patrol. Authorities say the driver, identified as Harold Eugene Grooms, 42, allegedly admitted to being in possession of illegal narcotics during the stop.

Deputies then conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle, where they allegedly located a clear plastic bag containing a crystal-like substance along with a glass smoking pipe. The substance was field tested and reportedly returned a presumptive positive result for methamphetamine, weighing approximately 1.5 grams.

Grooms, who was allegedly the sole occupant of the vehicle, was taken into custody and charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. He remains held at the L.C. Knight Detention Center, according to officials.

Sheriff Sam Richardson stated the arrest reflects ongoing proactive enforcement efforts aimed at reducing drug activity in the community. He added that deputies will continue focusing on individuals who allegedly distribute narcotics throughout Dorchester County.

The sheriffโ€™s office emphasized its continued commitment to public safety through targeted patrols and community collaboration, noting that such enforcement actions are part of broader efforts to maintain safe neighborhoods across the county.
