Pendleton, OR – Strong winds and areas of blowing dust are expected across eastern Oregon Wednesday as a High Wind Warning remains in effect for the Pendleton area through late tonight.
According to the National Weather Service, showers are likely Wednesday morning before conditions turn increasingly windy during the afternoon. West winds between 17 and 31 mph are expected, with gusts reaching as high as 49 mph at times.
Forecasters warn patchy blowing dust could reduce visibility after 8 a.m., especially along open highways and rural roadways across Umatilla County and surrounding areas. Drivers of high-profile vehicles should use extra caution due to dangerous crosswinds.
Rain chances decrease later Wednesday evening, though breezy conditions will continue overnight with gusts approaching 39 mph. Temperatures will cool into the lower 40s overnight.
Conditions improve Thursday as sunshine returns and winds gradually weaken. High temperatures are expected to reach the upper 60s Thursday before slightly cooler air settles in Friday and Saturday.
Mostly sunny skies are forecast through the weekend with daytime highs remaining in the low to mid-60s. Temperatures rebound early next week, with highs climbing back into the 70s by Monday and Tuesday.
Officials encourage residents to secure loose outdoor items and remain alert for rapidly changing visibility conditions during the strongest winds Wednesday afternoon and evening.
