Jacksonville, FL – Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected across the Jacksonville area through Wednesday before drier and sunnier weather returns for the remainder of the week and weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, showers and thunderstorms will continue overnight into Wednesday morning, with some storms capable of producing heavy rainfall. Rainfall totals between a half and three-quarters of an inch are possible in stronger storms, especially during the afternoon hours Wednesday.

Forecasters say the highest rain chances will occur Wednesday between noon and 5 p.m. Gusty winds could reach up to 21 mph, and localized ponding on roads may affect the afternoon commute across parts of Duval County and surrounding northeast Florida communities.

Conditions improve Wednesday night as rain moves offshore and skies gradually clear. Overnight lows will fall to around 66 degrees with lighter northwest winds developing late.

A much drier pattern settles into the region beginning Thursday. Sunshine is expected to dominate through the weekend with highs climbing into the mid-80s each afternoon. Thursday is forecast to reach near 84 degrees, followed by highs around 81 Friday and 86 Saturday.

The warm and mostly dry weather pattern continues into early next week, with highs staying in the mid-to-upper 80s and only isolated rain chances returning by Tuesday.

A rip current statement remains in effect for area beaches through Wednesday evening, and beachgoers are urged to use caution in the surf.
