New York, NY – Dry conditions will give way to a stretch of unsettled weather across the tri-state area on Wednesday, May 13, as a slow-moving frontal system approaches, bringing increasing rain chances late in the day and into Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in New York, showers are expected to develop from west to east late Wednesday, gradually overspreading areas including New York City, Newark, and southern Connecticut by evening and overnight hours. While much of the daytime remains dry, conditions will deteriorate later, potentially impacting the evening commute.
Rain will continue through Thursday, with periods of heavier downpours possible across the region. Forecasters say a few thunderstorms could develop, especially during the daytime Thursday, increasing the risk for localized flooding in low-lying or poor drainage areas.
Rainfall totals may vary, but some locations could see moderate accumulation, particularly across parts of northeastern New Jersey, the Hudson Valley, and coastal Connecticut.
Lingering showers are expected Thursday night, especially across Long Island and southern Connecticut, before gradual improvement heading into Friday.
Drivers along major corridors including I-95, I-87, and the Long Island Expressway should prepare for reduced visibility and wet road conditions, particularly during heavier rain periods.
Residents are encouraged to monitor forecast updates and plan accordingly for wet weather through the end of the workweek.
