Jackson, KY – Rain and a few rumbles of thunder move into eastern Kentucky on Wednesday, May 13, as a cold front pushes through the region, bringing a noticeable shift to cooler პირობ by late week.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, clouds will increase through Wednesday morning, followed by scattered showers and a chance of thunderstorms during the day. High temperatures are expected to reach between 72 and 78 degrees across communities including Jackson, London, and Hazard, with rain chances ranging from 50% early to tapering later in the day.
Behind the front, conditions turn significantly cooler Thursday, with mostly sunny skies and highs only in the mid to upper 60s. Overnight lows will dip into the 30s and low 40s, especially in sheltered valleys and colder hollows.
Forecasters note that patchy frost is possible late Thursday night into early Friday morning in the coldest locations, which could impact sensitive plants and early-season crops across parts of eastern Kentucky.
By Friday, temperatures begin to rebound into the 70s under partly cloudy skies, offering a brief return to milder conditions before additional rain chances arrive heading into the weekend.
Drivers should remain cautious Wednesday during periods of rain, as slick roads and reduced visibility may affect travel on routes such as the Mountain Parkway and KY-80.
Residents are encouraged to monitor forecast updates, especially those in frost-prone areas later this week.
