Texarkana – Drivers along I-30 and surrounding roadways could face repeated slowdowns early in April as a wetter-than-normal pattern takes hold across the Arkansas-Texas border region.

According to the Climate Prediction Center’s March 19 outlook, northeast Texas and southwest Arkansas are expected to see precipitation totals up to 60% above normal through April, increasing the likelihood of frequent rain events and localized flooding concerns.

Communities across Bowie County in Texas and Miller County in Arkansas may experience standing water on low-lying roads, especially during heavier downpours. Smaller creeks and drainage systems could fill quickly, while rural areas may see muddy conditions that impact travel and agriculture.

Temperatures are expected to trend above average through the month, which will limit drying time between storms and increase runoff into already saturated ground. That combination raises the risk for brief flash flooding and isolated power outages where soil weakens tree stability.

Residents should monitor local alerts, avoid driving through flooded roadways, and ensure drainage areas around homes remain clear.

This active weather pattern is expected to persist through much of April, with additional advisories likely as repeated storm systems move across the Texarkana region.
