Los Angeles, CA – Five Guys is set to close four locations across California, resulting in dozens of job losses as the company cites financial challenges and rising operating costs.

According to layoff tracking reports, a total of 55 employees will be affected as the closures roll out between May and July 2026. The impacted locations span both Southern and Central California, affecting workers in multiple communities.

The closures include a restaurant in Whittier with 13 layoffs and another in the City of Industry impacting 15 employees. In Central California, the Merced location will see 13 workers laid off, while the Hanford location accounts for 14 job losses.

While the company has not released a detailed public statement, the reported reason for the closures points to increasing operational expenses and broader financial strain impacting store performance.

The move reflects ongoing challenges within the restaurant industry, where rising labor costs, inflation, and shifting consumer habits have led some chains to scale back operations in certain markets.

Employees affected by the closures may be eligible for job placement assistance or unemployment benefits, depending on company policy and state programs.

No additional closures have been announced at this time, and it remains unclear whether other California locations could be impacted in the future.
