St. Louis County, MO Drowning: Body Recovered from Spanish Lake Monday Morning

St. Louis County, MO – A drowning investigation is underway after a 64-year-old man was found dead Monday morning in Spanish Lake, following an overnight search effort in north St. Louis County.

According to the St. Louis County Police Department, officers responded around 4:03 p.m. Sunday, May 10, 2026, to the 12500 block of Spanish Pond Road in Spanish Lake Park for reports of a possible drowning. Witnesses told police an adult male had fallen into the water earlier that afternoon.

Rescue crews searched the lake for several hours Sunday before suspending efforts for the night.

According to police, the search resumed Monday morning, and at approximately 10:20 a.m., the body of 64-year-old Sevelle Meeks, of St. Louis, was recovered from Spanish Pond Lake.

Preliminary findings indicate Meeks was boating on the lake when he fell into the water and drowned, according to investigators.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and are asking anyone with information to contact the St. Louis County Police Department.
