Michigan – A cold, damp start is unfolding across Gaylord this morning, where wet pavement and near-freezing air are setting the stage for a messy shift later today. Light rain is falling now, but conditions will not stay that way.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, a transition from rain to snow will develop across northern Lower Michigan by mid to late afternoon. Patchy freezing rain is also possible early, especially before temperatures briefly rise. While ice buildup stays minimal, the changeover will bring accumulating snow and reduced visibility.

Gaylord, Petoskey, and Grayling will see roads turn slushy by late afternoon, especially along M-32 and I-75. Drivers should expect changing conditions within a short distance. Plan extra time and avoid sudden braking as surfaces become slick.

Temperatures fall quickly into the evening, dropping toward the mid-teens by late night. Any leftover moisture may refreeze, creating patchy black ice on bridges and untreated roads. This is a classic setup for flash freezing.

Friday turns sharply colder with highs near 26°F under clearing skies. A few light snow showers may linger into early Friday night before skies partially clear.

Saturday remains cold but calmer with highs near 31°F and more sunshine. By Sunday, temperatures rebound into the upper 40s, offering a brief taste of spring.

Early next week brings another round of rain and snow chances as temperatures slowly climb back toward seasonal levels.
