Burlington, VT – A frost advisory is in effect overnight May 11–12 across parts of northern New York and Vermont, with temperatures expected to drop between 32 and 36 degrees.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, the advisory runs from midnight through 9 a.m. Tuesday and includes communities along the Champlain Valley such as Plattsburgh, Ticonderoga, Burlington, St. Albans, and Middlebury.

The advisory covers eastern Clinton and Essex counties in New York, along with portions of Franklin, Chittenden, and Addison counties in Vermont. Areas closest to Lake Champlain may see slightly warmer temperatures, potentially limiting frost development near the shoreline.

The primary concern is frost formation that could damage or kill sensitive outdoor vegetation. Garden plants, flowers, and early-season crops are especially vulnerable during this period of near-freezing temperatures.

Residents are urged to take precautions Monday night by covering plants or bringing them indoors if possible. Even a few hours of frost can significantly impact unprotected vegetation.

Temperatures are expected to rise after sunrise Tuesday, ending the frost threat by mid-morning.

This late-season cold snap highlights the continued risk of frost across the region despite recent mild spring conditions.
