Plainfield, IN – Drivers in Hendricks and Putnam counties should expect changes to planned road work along U.S. 40, as construction has been delayed due to recent heavy rainfall.
According to the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), bridge work that was originally expected to begin this week in Hendricks County will now be pushed back until June. The project will involve intermittent lane closures impacting three bridges across two locations.
In Hendricks County, crews will perform scour protection work on bridges between County Road 400 East and Miles Road, affecting traffic near Plainfield in the Indianapolis metro area. Officials say lane closures will occur periodically, and drivers should be prepared for brief delays and shifting traffic patterns.
Work in neighboring Putnam County, including areas near Reelsville, is scheduled to begin on or after June 8. Similar bridge work will take place over Big Walnut Creek, with intermittent lane restrictions expected.
According to INDOT, construction activities across both counties are anticipated to continue through November, depending on weather conditions and project progress.
Motorists traveling along U.S. 40 are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and remain alert in work zones once construction begins. Officials also remind drivers to slow down and follow posted signage to ensure the safety of both workers and other motorists.
