Georgia residents are stepping out into an unseasonably warm Thursday morning as a powerful ridge of high pressure pushes temperatures toward the 80-degree mark. The thick humidity of the early hours is already giving way to bright sunshine, signaling a rapid climb that will make the metro area feel more like June than late March.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, the heat intensity will peak over the next 48 hours. While Thursday brings a high of 80 degrees, Friday is expected to soar to 85 degrees under clear, sunny skies. West winds will pick up speed by Friday afternoon, gusting as high as 20 mph, which may create challenging conditions for high-profile vehicles on I-75 and I-285.

The surge of “summer vibes” will be short-lived, however, as a strong cold front is timed to move through the region Friday night. This transition will be dry but brisk. Northwest winds will increase to 15 mph with gusts hitting 25 mph after sunset Friday, ushering in a much cooler air mass. By Saturday morning, early risers will feel a biting 35-degree difference from the previous afternoon’s peak as lows dip to near 50 degrees.

This weekend offers a crisp, sunny reprieve. Saturday and Sunday will see highs settling into the upper 60s, providing perfect conditions for gardening or outdoor spring break activities. Though the afternoons will be pleasant, Saturday night will be the coldest stretch of the week with a low of 45 degrees. Residents should keep light jackets ready for evening plans. Looking ahead to next week, the warming trend resumes quickly with 80-degree temperatures returning by Tuesday.
