Salt Lake City, Utah – Record heat is peaking across northern Utah, with Salt Lake City hitting 83°F Wednesday, extending a streak that has now rewritten temperature records multiple times in just over a week.

According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, Wednesday marked the sixth daily record high since last week, part of an ongoing stretch that began around March 18. The 83°F reading broke the previous record of 78°F set in 2022, continuing a pattern of unusually warm conditions across the Wasatch Front.

The heat has impacted communities from Ogden to Provo, accelerating snowmelt at lower elevations and increasing water runoff into storm drains and creeks. Along Interstate 15 and I-80, warmer pavement temperatures have also contributed to hazy conditions and reduced air quality during peak afternoon hours.

A cold front moving in overnight will shift conditions quickly, bringing cooler temperatures through Thursday and Friday. Highs are expected to fall back into the 60s and low 70s, offering a short-lived break from the heat.

Residents are encouraged to clear debris from drainage areas and prepare for fluctuating temperatures, especially with snowmelt continuing. Warm conditions are expected to return by the weekend, with additional record highs possible if the warming trend resumes.
