Peoria, IL – Two people are dead following an officer-involved shooting Friday evening in Peoria after police responded to a reported domestic disturbance.

According to the Peoria Police Department, officers were called around 6:36 p.m. Friday, May 8, 2026, to the 500 block of Hamilton Boulevard for a report involving an adult male and an adult female.

Police said that during the incident, the male subject allegedly shot the female victim. A responding officer then discharged their weapon, striking the male subject.

Both the male and female were transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Authorities confirmed that both individuals were later pronounced deceased.

The officer involved in the shooting was not injured, according to police.

Officials say the identities of the victims, along with the official cause and manner of death, will be released by the Peoria County Coroner’s Office at a later time.

According to police, the incident remains under investigation. As is standard protocol in officer-involved shootings, the Illinois State Police have been called in to conduct an independent investigation into the use of force.
