McKinleyville, California – Coastal communities along far Northern California could wake up to frost forming on exposed surfaces early Thursday, putting sensitive plants at risk during the morning hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, a Frost Advisory will be in effect from 4 a.m. to 8 a.m. Thursday for Del Norte County and the Northern Humboldt Coast. Temperatures are expected to dip to around 36°F in areas including McKinleyville, Fieldbrook, and Fort Dick, cold enough for patchy frost to develop under clear skies and light winds.
Even along the coast, where temperatures are typically moderated, sheltered inland spots and low-lying areas are more likely to see frost accumulation. Gardens, nurseries, and small-scale agriculture operations could experience damage if precautions are not taken.
Residents are urged to cover sensitive plants, bring potted vegetation indoors, and avoid leaving irrigation systems running overnight, which can increase frost exposure. Early commuters may also notice reduced visibility in localized areas where frost settles on windshields and surfaces.
Temperatures will rise quickly after 8 a.m. Thursday, but additional cold mornings remain possible if skies stay clear and winds remain light.
