Indianapolis, Indiana – Severe thunderstorms are expected Thursday across Indiana and Ohio, bringing risks of hail, wind damage, and possible tornadoes.
According to a post from the U.S. National Weather Service, storms capable of producing large hail, damaging winds, and a few tornadoes are likely to develop across the lower Great Lakes region on Thursday, March 26. The Storm Prediction Center places much of Indiana and Ohio within a slight to enhanced risk area (levels 2–3 of 5).
Forecasters indicate storms may strengthen through the afternoon and evening as they move eastward, with higher-risk zones including cities such as Indianapolis, Dayton, and Columbus.
While not all locations will see severe weather, any storms that form could intensify quickly. Damaging straight-line winds and large hail are the primary threats, with isolated tornadoes also possible.
Travel impacts are likely along major corridors including Interstates 65, 70, 71, and 75, particularly during the evening commute. Drivers may encounter sudden heavy rain, strong wind gusts, and reduced visibility.
Residents are encouraged to monitor forecast updates and ensure multiple ways to receive warnings throughout the day Thursday.
This alert reflects the latest information shared by the National Weather Service without additional forecast expansion.
