Indianapolis, Indiana – Severe thunderstorms are expected Thursday across the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes, bringing risks of hail, wind damage, and possible tornadoes.

According to a post from the U.S. National Weather Service, storms capable of producing large hail, damaging winds, and a few tornadoes are likely to develop across the lower Great Lakes region on Thursday, March 26. The Storm Prediction Center highlights a broad risk area covering Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio.

The outlook shows the greatest concern centered from central Illinois through Indiana into Ohio, with storms expected to strengthen as they move east during the afternoon and evening hours. Portions of southern Michigan are also included in the threat zone.

Forecasters emphasize that while severe weather may not occur everywhere, any storms that form could intensify quickly and produce hazardous conditions. Damaging straight-line winds and hail appear to be the primary threats, with isolated tornadoes also possible.

Major travel corridors across the region could see impacts, particularly during peak evening commute hours. Drivers and commuters may experience sudden weather changes, reduced visibility, and hazardous road conditions.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updates and have multiple ways to receive warnings throughout the day Thursday.

This alert is based on the latest information shared by the National Weather Service and reflects current expectations without additional forecast expansion.
