Homer Glen, IL – Visitors to Messenger Woods Nature Preserve in Will County will need to make alternate plans as the site prepares for a temporary closure later this month.
According to the Forest Preserve District of Will County, Messenger Woods will be closed from Monday, May 18 through Friday, June 5, 2026, to allow for a major entrance road replacement project.
Officials say the work will involve removing and replacing the entrance road from Bruce Road to the preserve’s first parking lot. The project was approved by the Forest Preserve Board of Commissioners in April.
The closure is expected to last approximately three weeks, though officials note that weather conditions or other factors could impact the timeline.
Messenger Woods, located on Bruce Road just east of Cedar Road in Homer Glen, is a popular destination for walking trails, nature observation, and outdoor recreation.
Visitors are encouraged to check the Forest Preserve District’s website for updates on construction progress and reopening details.
Officials say the improvements are aimed at enhancing access and safety for future visitors once the preserve reopens.
