Billings, Montana – Travel across Idaho and Montana could become hazardous at times during the April 1–7 period as strong wind gusts and rounds of rain impact major corridors, including I-90, I-15, and U.S. 93.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, the Northern Rockies sit within an elevated wind risk zone, with some of the strongest gust potential stretching across Montana and into southern Idaho. Periodic storm systems will also bring scattered precipitation, especially in mountainous areas.

Wind gusts between 50 and 65 mph are possible, particularly across open plains in Montana and through mountain gaps in Idaho. Cities like Billings, Missoula, and Idaho Falls could see strong crosswinds capable of making travel difficult for high-profile vehicles, especially along I-90 and I-15.

Rainfall will be scattered, with light to moderate showers at times. Higher elevations in the Bitterroots and Rockies may see more consistent precipitation, leading to reduced visibility and slick road conditions through mountain passes.

Drivers should be alert for sudden wind gusts on exposed highways and prepare for rapidly changing conditions, especially near ridgelines and open terrain.

This active pattern will persist through April 1–7, with additional wind advisories or warnings likely as conditions evolve across the Northern Rockies.
