Reno, Nevada – Travel across California and Nevada could become hazardous at times during the April 1–7 period as strong winds and rounds of precipitation impact major corridors including I-80, U.S. 395, and Highway 50.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, this region remains in an active weather pattern, with periodic systems bringing near-normal precipitation and an elevated risk of gusty winds, especially across the Sierra Nevada and adjacent valleys.

Wind gusts between 50 and 60 mph are possible, particularly along the Sierra ridgelines and into western Nevada, including Reno, Carson City, and areas near Lake Tahoe. These winds could create dangerous travel conditions for high-profile vehicles and lead to sudden crosswinds along exposed stretches of I-80.

Periods of rain are expected across lower elevations, while higher terrain in the Sierra may see heavier precipitation at times. Travel through mountain passes could be impacted by reduced visibility and slick road conditions, especially during stronger bursts.

Localized heavier showers could briefly impact visibility and create ponding on roadways, particularly along foothill routes and valley corridors.

Drivers are urged to use caution in wind-prone areas, allow extra travel time through mountain passes, and remain alert for sudden weather changes.

This unsettled pattern will persist through April 1–7, with additional advisories possible as systems continue to move through the region.
