Detroit, Michigan – A dramatic temperature swing is set to hit southeast Michigan, with springlike warmth Thursday quickly replaced by near-freezing air by Friday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, highs will climb into the mid-60s to low 70s Thursday across southern areas, while northern parts of the region stay closer to the mid-50s. Scattered showers and storms will develop during the day, with the potential for stronger storms by late afternoon into the evening.
Cities including Detroit, Ann Arbor, Monroe, and Pontiac will feel the sharp contrast as temperatures drop rapidly overnight. By Friday, highs will struggle to reach 40 degrees, with morning lows dipping into the mid-20s to near 30.
The cooldown continues into the weekend, with Saturday highs only in the low to mid-40s and overnight lows falling into the low to mid-20s. A gradual rebound begins Sunday, with temperatures returning to the low to mid-50s.
Drivers should prepare for wet roads Thursday followed by colder conditions that could refreeze moisture early Friday, especially on bridges and overpasses along I-75, I-94, and I-96.
Residents are urged to plan for rapid weather changes, from storms and mild air to colder temperatures within a 12 to 18 hour window.
