Phoenix, Ariz. – A suspect accused in a deadly 2024 head-on crash that killed three people and injured multiple children has been arrested after months on the run.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, detectives with the Vehicular Crimes Unit, working alongside the U.S. Marshals Service, located and arrested 48-year-old Amy Lynn Mickelson in Salt Lake City on Thursday. The arrest stems from a December crash along U.S. 93 near Congress that left three people dead at the scene.
Investigators say Mickelson crossed the center line while driving a BMW sedan and collided head-on with a Toyota Sienna. Three occupants in the minivan were killed, while four children between the ages of 5 and 16 suffered serious injuries and were taken for treatment.
Authorities allege Mickelson was impaired at the time of the crash and later fled Arizona before being located in Utah. She is now held in Weber County Jail without bond and awaits extradition to Yavapai County.
Mickelson faces multiple felony charges, including three counts of second-degree murder and aggravated DUI. Officials say additional legal proceedings will follow as the case moves forward.
