Indianapolis, IN – Temperatures will surge into the low 80s by Thursday afternoon, setting up a sharp shift as thunderstorms arrive late Thursday night and disrupt early Friday travel.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, highs will reach between 78°F and 83°F Thursday after a warm-up to near 70°F Wednesday. Storms are expected to develop late Thursday evening, with the most active window between 9 p.m. and 4 a.m. as a cold front moves through the state.

Cities along the I-70 corridor, including Indianapolis, Terre Haute, and Richmond, could see periods of heavy rain and gusty winds overnight. The timing raises concern for reduced visibility and wet road conditions during the early Friday morning commute.

By Friday afternoon, temperatures will fall sharply into the 40s and 50s, marking a drop of nearly 30 degrees from Thursday’s peak. This rapid change could catch some residents off guard after several warm days.

Residents should secure outdoor items Thursday evening and keep weather alerts enabled overnight. Additional advisories may be issued as storm strength and timing become clearer.
