Omaha, Nebraska – Fire danger will rapidly increase across eastern Nebraska by Wednesday afternoon as temperatures surge into the 80s and dry, breezy conditions take hold.
According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, highs will climb from the mid-60s today into the low to upper 80s Wednesday, with continued warmth into Thursday. Low humidity and dry fuels will create a high fire خطر, especially along the I-80 corridor from Omaha to Lincoln and into western Iowa.
Winds will increase Thursday as a cold front approaches, bringing breezy conditions that could further elevate fire spread potential. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged, and any sparks could quickly grow under these conditions.
By late Thursday, the cold front will move through, bringing a sharp cooldown and a slight chance (20% to 30%) of light rain or even a rain-snow mix into Friday. Temperatures will drop into the low 50s Friday, marking a significant change from midweek warmth.
Cities including Omaha, Lincoln, and Council Bluffs should prepare for rapidly changing conditions, from fire خطر midweek to cooler, unsettled weather by Friday.
Residents should avoid outdoor burning, secure equipment that could spark, and stay alert for updates as fire weather concerns remain elevated through Thursday.
