Richmond, Virginia – Temperatures have dropped sharply across Virginia today, with highs running 25 to 35 degrees cooler than recent days, creating a noticeably chilly feel despite clear skies.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, inland areas including Richmond and Petersburg will see highs between 50°F and 55°F, while coastal communities such as Norfolk and Virginia Beach remain cooler in the 45°F to 50°F range. Sunshine will dominate through the day, keeping conditions dry across major corridors like I-95, I-64, and US-58.

The cooler air arrives following a stretch of near-record warmth, marking a rapid shift that residents will feel immediately, especially during the morning and evening hours. Winds remain light, helping limit additional impacts despite the temperature drop.

Clouds will begin increasing overnight, with lows falling into the 30s inland and mid to upper 30s along the coast. Areas farther from the water could see patchy frost by early Wednesday morning.

Dry conditions will persist through midweek before the next chance of rain develops by Friday afternoon. Residents should prepare for chilly mornings and stay updated as conditions shift later this week.
