Manchester, New Hampshire – New Hampshire ranks among the higher states for UFO sightings per capita, with one report for every 1,288 residents, reflecting steady reports of unexplained aerial activity.

According to Casino.ca’s annual UFO sightings analysis, New Hampshire places within the upper tier nationwide based on data collected since 1974. The rankings compare total sightings against population, identifying where reports are most concentrated.

Though smaller in population, the state has recorded hundreds of sightings across cities like Manchester and Concord, as well as rural northern areas known for dark-sky visibility. Researchers say these conditions may contribute to consistent reporting levels.

New Hampshire is also linked to one of the earliest widely reported UFO incidents in the United States. In 1961, Betty and Barney Hill reported a close encounter near Lincoln, describing a bright object and subsequent experience that drew national attention and remains one of the most documented cases. In another instance, witnesses across the White Mountains region have reported fast-moving lights changing direction abruptly over remote terrain.

More recent reports included in national databases describe hovering lights, silent movement, and objects accelerating beyond typical aircraft capabilities. None of the sightings have been confirmed as extraterrestrial.

Researchers point to New Hampshire’s rural landscape, low light pollution, and public awareness of reporting systems as factors contributing to its elevated rate.

Nationwide, the average chance of reporting a UFO sighting is estimated at about 1 in 1,700, placing New Hampshire above average.

Sightings are most frequently reported during nighttime hours, particularly by commuters, residents, and outdoor observers.

New Hampshire’s ranking reinforces its position as a consistently active UFO reporting state, according to the latest annual data.
