Portland, Oregon – Oregon ranks among the top states for UFO sightings per capita, with one report for every 1,054 residents, reflecting a steady pattern of unexplained aerial activity.
According to Casino.ca’s annual UFO sightings analysis, Oregon places within the top five nationwide based on data collected since 1974. The rankings compare total sightings against population, identifying where reports are most concentrated.
Thousands of sightings have been recorded across the state, with reports spanning major cities like Portland and Eugene as well as remote areas in eastern Oregon. Researchers say the state’s mix of dark-sky regions and active outdoor population may contribute to consistent reporting levels.
Oregon is also tied to several well-known cases. In 1950, a widely reported incident near McMinnville involved photographs of a disc-shaped object captured by a local farming couple—images that remain among the most recognized in UFO history. In another case, multiple witnesses near Mount Hood have reported bright, fast-moving lights changing direction abruptly over mountainous terrain.
Recent reports included in national databases describe hovering lights, silent movement, and objects accelerating at speeds not typical of conventional aircraft. None of the sightings have been confirmed as extraterrestrial.
Analysts estimate the average American has about a 1 in 1,700 chance of reporting a UFO sighting, placing Oregon well above the national average.
Sightings are most frequently reported during nighttime hours, particularly by outdoor enthusiasts, commuters, and residents in low-light rural areas.
Oregon’s ranking reinforces its position as one of the most active UFO reporting regions in the United States, according to the latest annual data.
