Orlando, Florida – Florida ranks among the top states for UFO sightings per capita, with one report for every 1,102 residents, reflecting a high volume of unexplained aerial activity.

According to Casino.ca’s annual UFO sightings analysis, Florida places within the top five nationwide, based on national data collected since 1974. The rankings compare total sightings against population to identify where reports are most concentrated.

Florida also ranks among the highest states in total sightings, with more than 16,000 reports logged over several decades—second only to California. Reports span major metro areas including Miami, Tampa, and Orlando, as well as coastal and inland regions.

The state is linked to several widely reported cases. In 1997, thousands of witnesses across Florida reported a massive V-shaped formation of lights moving across the night sky during what became known as the “Phoenix Lights” event, which extended into the Southeast. In another case, multiple sightings along the Gulf Coast have described glowing orbs hovering over water before disappearing.

Recent reports included in national databases describe bright lights, silent movement, and objects making sudden directional changes at speeds not typical of conventional aircraft. None have been confirmed as extraterrestrial.

Researchers point to Florida’s large population, extensive coastline, and frequent nighttime outdoor activity as factors contributing to its high reporting rate.

Nationwide, the average chance of reporting a UFO sighting is estimated at about 1 in 1,700, placing Florida well above average.

Sightings are most commonly reported at night, particularly by residents, tourists, and late-shift workers across urban and coastal areas.

Florida’s ranking reinforces its position as one of the most active UFO reporting states in the country, according to the latest annual data.
