Dover, Delaware – Delaware is recording the highest UFO sighting rate in the United States, with one report for every 928 residents, according to newly compiled national rankings.

According to Casino.ca’s annual UFO sightings analysis, the First State ranks first per capita using data sourced from long-running national databases tracking unidentified aerial phenomena since 1974. The ranking compares total sightings against population, highlighting where reports are most concentrated rather than most numerous.

Delaware’s position stands out even against larger states with higher raw totals. Washington ranks second at roughly one sighting per 977 residents, followed by Montana and Florida, underscoring how Delaware’s smaller population amplifies its reporting frequency.

In total volume, larger states still dominate. California leads the country with more than 16,000 recorded sightings, followed by Florida and Washington. However, Delaware’s density of reports places it at the top when adjusted for population size.

Historical reports from Delaware span decades and multiple regions. In 2004, witnesses in New Castle County described a bright, silent object moving steadily across the night sky without visible propulsion. Near Dover Air Force Base, observers have also reported clusters of lights traveling in formation before disappearing abruptly—incidents that remain unexplained.

More recent accounts continue to describe hovering lights, rapid directional shifts, and objects moving at speeds inconsistent with conventional aircraft, based on publicly submitted reports included in the analysis.

Researchers note that factors such as dark-sky visibility, air traffic corridors, and public awareness of reporting platforms may influence the rate. Nationwide, analysts estimate Americans have roughly a 1 in 1,700 chance of reporting a UFO sighting, making Delaware’s rate significantly higher than average.

Sightings are most frequently reported during nighttime hours, particularly by commuters, students, and night-shift workers.

Delaware’s ranking reinforces its position as the most concentrated hotspot for UFO reports in the country, according to the latest annual data.
