Peotone, IL – Drivers traveling through Will County should prepare for delays starting Friday as construction begins on a key section of Illinois Route 50.
According to the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), patching and resurfacing work will require intermittent daytime lane closures along IL-50 between Beecher and Wilmington, including the stretch passing through Peotone. The work is scheduled to begin Friday, May 1, weather permitting, and will continue through the summer months.
The $1.3 million project includes resurfacing approximately 1.2 miles of roadway, shoulder widening, and the construction of new ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps. Officials say the improvements aim to enhance safety and accessibility for both drivers and pedestrians in the area.
Motorists can expect periodic slowdowns during daytime hours as crews work along the corridor. While lane closures will not be constant, drivers are encouraged to plan for extra travel time, particularly during peak commuting periods.
Access to homes and businesses within the construction zone will remain open throughout the project, though some temporary inconveniences may occur. IDOT advises drivers to use alternate routes when possible and to remain alert for flaggers, signage, and construction crews.
The project is expected to be completed by September, barring any weather-related delays.
Drivers are also reminded to reduce speed in work zones and stay cautious to ensure the safety of workers and fellow motorists.
