Corydon, IN – A Leavenworth man was taken into custody Saturday night after allegedly leading Indiana State Police on a short motorcycle pursuit through Harrison County that ended with the discovery of suspected drugs.
According to Indiana State Police, the incident happened around 9:15 p.m. Saturday when Trooper Nathaniel Newton attempted to stop a westbound motorcycle for speeding on State Highway 62 near Water Street in Corydon. Police say the driver, later identified as 51-year-old Rickie Lee Chambers Jr., allegedly failed to stop and instead continued west before turning north onto State Road 135.
Authorities said Chambers initially appeared to slow before allegedly accelerating again, prompting a brief pursuit. Deputies with the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department reportedly observed the situation and assisted. Law enforcement officials said the motorcycle was successfully boxed in near the intersection of State Road 135 and State Road 337, where Chambers was taken into custody without further incident.
During the subsequent investigation, troopers and deputies allegedly discovered approximately two pounds of suspected marijuana, along with drug paraphernalia and a container holding multiple prescription pills.
Chambers was transported to the Harrison County Jail and faces several preliminary charges, including resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, multiple counts of possession of a controlled substance, dealing in marijuana, and possession of marijuana, all Level 6 felonies. He is also accused of driving while suspended and possession of paraphernalia, according to authorities.
All charges are allegations, and Chambers is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
