Indianapolis, Indiana — Showers and thunderstorms will move into the Indianapolis area late Tuesday night, bringing heavy rain and reduced visibility that could disrupt overnight travel from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. across Indianapolis, Carmel, Fishers, Greenwood, and Noblesville.
According to the National Weather Service, storms will develop late evening and continue overnight, with rainfall totals between 0.50 and 0.75 inches possible. The heaviest rain is expected between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. as storms track across central Indiana.
Rainfall on already saturated ground will quickly create water pooling on roads, especially along I-65, I-70, and I-69. Low-lying underpasses near downtown Indianapolis and flood-prone intersections in Greenwood and Fishers may take on water within minutes, reducing visibility and slowing traffic.
This is part of a broader system moving through the Midwest, where lingering moisture from earlier rainfall is increasing runoff risk despite limited severe storm potential.
Drivers should avoid water-covered roads and use caution during the 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. peak window, when visibility may drop rapidly and standing water becomes more widespread.
