Dallas, Texas — Severe thunderstorms will develop across the Dallas area late Tuesday afternoon, bringing damaging wind gusts and heavy rain that could disrupt travel between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. across Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington, Plano, and Irving.

According to the National Weather Service, storms will begin after 1 p.m., with intensity increasing rapidly during the late afternoon. Some storms may produce wind gusts up to 60 mph and rainfall totals between 0.50 and 1.00 inches by late evening.

Heavy rain will quickly create water-covered roads, especially along low-lying sections of I-30, I-35E, and surface streets in Arlington and Irving. Strong wind gusts may down small branches and cause isolated power outages, while visibility could drop sharply during peak downpours.

This is part of a broader system across North Texas, where unstable air and deep moisture are fueling severe thunderstorm development.

Drivers should avoid flooded roadways and delay travel during the 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. peak window. Secure outdoor items ahead of the storms and monitor alerts for rapidly changing conditions.

Storms will continue overnight from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m., bringing additional lightning, heavy rain, and travel disruptions before conditions briefly improve Wednesday morning.
