Jackson, Kentucky – Lingering rain showers are fading across eastern Kentucky this morning, but a sharp temperature drop tonight could bring patchy frost and impact early Tuesday travel and outdoor plans.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, light rain will taper off by early afternoon Monday, with clearing skies expected later in the day. As colder air settles in overnight, temperatures will fall between 26 and 35 degrees, especially in valley locations where frost is most likely to develop by early Tuesday morning.
Communities including Hazard, Pikeville, and London could see frost forming on exposed surfaces before sunrise, potentially affecting sensitive vegetation and creating slick spots on elevated roadways. Drivers along the Hal Rogers Parkway and U.S. 23 should remain alert for localized visibility changes early Tuesday.
By Tuesday afternoon, a much drier air mass takes hold, with humidity dropping below 25%. That shift will increase fire danger across the region, particularly in grassy and wooded areas where fuels dry quickly. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and dispose of flammable materials carefully.
A warming trend follows midweek, with highs climbing into the 70s by Wednesday and low 80s by Thursday before the next cold front brings another round of showers and storms by late Thursday into Friday. Additional advisories may be issued as conditions evolve.
