Lake Charles, Louisiana – Warm, dry air is locking into place across southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana today, with temperatures already climbing into the low 80s and expected to stay there through the workweek.
According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, a strong high-pressure system will dominate the region through Friday, keeping rain chances at 0% while pushing afternoon highs between 82 and 86 degrees. Cities including Beaumont, Lake Charles, Lafayette, and Alexandria will run well above normal for late March, with several locations nearing record highs by midweek.
The persistent warmth will impact daily routines, especially during peak afternoon hours when pavement and indoor spaces heat up quickly. Energy demand may increase as cooling systems run longer, particularly in urban areas along the I-10 corridor from Houston to Lafayette.
Winds remain relatively light through midweek, but the extended dry stretch raises concerns for elevated fire risk in grassy and rural areas. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and properly dispose of smoking materials.
A shift arrives late Friday into the weekend as a cold front moves through, dropping highs into the low to mid-70s by Saturday and Sunday. While conditions stay mostly dry, the cooler air will offer relief after several days of unseasonable heat. Additional updates will follow if that front strengthens or brings unexpected changes.
