Des Moines, Iowa – A cool and unsettled start to the week is underway across Iowa, with temperatures struggling to climb out of the upper 40s today as spotty sprinkles move through during the morning and early afternoon hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Des Moines, highs will range between 48 and 52 degrees Monday, with similar conditions continuing into Tuesday as clouds linger and isolated light rain develops at times. While rainfall amounts remain minimal, damp roads and reduced visibility could affect portions of I-35 and I-80 during brief showers.

By Wednesday, a noticeable warmup takes hold statewide. High temperatures surge into the 70s across central Iowa, with southern communities pushing into the low 80s by Thursday afternoon. Cities including Des Moines, Ames, and Ottumwa will see a rapid shift from early-week chill to springlike warmth in just 48 hours.

That warmth won’t last long. A cold front arrives Thursday, bringing a chance for scattered showers mainly across southern Iowa and increasing winds. Behind the front, temperatures drop sharply into the 40s and low 50s by Friday, with breezy conditions returning.

Iowans should prepare for quick changes this week, from light rain early to midweek warmth and a late-week cooldown. Additional updates are expected as the Thursday system approaches.
