Lake Charles, Louisiana – Drivers across southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana face immediate travel hazards early Monday as dense fog drops visibility below a quarter mile, creating dangerous conditions on major corridors before the morning commute peaks.
According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. Monday for cities including Beaumont, Port Arthur, Lake Charles, Lafayette, and Alexandria. Visibility may fall under 0.25 miles, especially along I-10, I-210, and coastal roadways, where moisture and calm winds allow fog to rapidly thicken.
Transportation officials urge drivers to slow down, increase following distance, and use low-beam headlights. In some areas, including Jefferson and Calcasieu parishes, patchy fog could linger even after sunrise, briefly impacting school and work travel. Conditions improve quickly by mid-morning as temperatures climb into the mid-80s under partly sunny skies.
Beyond the fog, a prolonged dry stretch settles in across the region. Rain chances remain at 0% through Friday, with steady warming and highs pushing 88 to 89 degrees by late week. Overnight lows stay mild in the upper 50s to mid-60s.
Another round of patchy fog may redevelop by early Tuesday morning, while a weak cold front approaching late Friday could bring slightly cooler air into the weekend. Additional advisories remain possible if visibility drops again overnight.
