Kankakee, Illinois – Residents in Kankakee County will have an opportunity to clear eligible criminal records at an upcoming expungement clinic hosted at the Kankakee Public Library.

According to the Kankakee County State’s Attorney’s Office, the clinic is scheduled for Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the library’s third-floor meeting room, located at 201 E. Merchant Street in Kankakee.

Officials said attorneys and staff will be on-site to review eligibility for expungement or record sealing and provide guidance through the process. The clinic is part of the “Fresh Start” restorative justice initiative aimed at helping residents move forward by addressing past legal issues.

The event is open to individuals with cases in Kankakee County only. Organizers noted that space may be limited and encouraged residents to register in advance to secure a spot.

Expungement and record sealing can help remove or limit public access to certain criminal records, which may improve opportunities for employment, housing, and education.

The clinic is being held in partnership with local agencies, including the Kankakee County Circuit Clerk and Recorder’s Office.

Residents seeking more information or wishing to register can contact Community Outreach Specialist Elizabeth Johnson at 815-936-5852.
