Wakefield, Virginia – Quiet weather today will give way to increasing rain chances by Tuesday afternoon, with a stronger round of storms expected Wednesday that could disrupt travel and evening plans across eastern Virginia.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, conditions remain mostly sunny today with highs between 67 and 71 degrees inland and slightly cooler along the coast. Isolated showers may develop Tuesday afternoon, but the more significant system arrives Wednesday with widespread showers and thunderstorms, some of which could become strong.
Cities including Richmond, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and Newport News could see storms develop after 3 p.m. Wednesday, intensifying into the evening hours. Roads such as I-95, I-64, and U.S. 58 may experience slick conditions and reduced visibility during heavier downpours, especially during the evening commute window.
Highs Wednesday will reach 70 to 76 degrees before storms move through, followed by slightly cooler and drier air Thursday with highs in the mid to upper 60s. Additional light showers are possible again Saturday, but rainfall totals overall are expected to remain limited.
Residents should monitor updates ahead of Wednesday’s storms, secure outdoor items, and plan for possible travel delays. The next update is expected within 24 hours as storm timing and strength become clearer.
