Albany, New York – Clear skies and mild temperatures today will give way to a sharp midweek cooldown, with rain arriving by Wednesday afternoon and creating slick travel conditions across the Capital Region.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, dry and sunny conditions will hold through Tuesday, with highs ranging from 60 to 72 degrees. A cold front will move in Wednesday afternoon, bringing showers that may intensify into the evening and continue into early Thursday.
Rain is expected to spread across Albany, Schenectady, Troy, and Saratoga Springs by late Wednesday, affecting travel along I-87, I-90, and Route 7 during the evening commute. Temperatures will fall quickly behind the front, dropping from the upper 60s Wednesday to the 40s and low 50s by Thursday. Light rain may linger into Thursday morning before tapering.
By Friday, cooler air settles in with highs only reaching the 40 to 55 degree range, and a few spotty showers possible. While widespread hazards are not expected, the sudden temperature drop could impact outdoor plans and early-season gardening.
Residents should prepare for wet roads Wednesday evening, allow extra travel time, and keep jackets ready for the late-week chill. Additional updates are expected within the next 24 hours as the timing of the front becomes more precise.
