Michigan’s Upper Peninsula feels more like midwinter than early spring this morning, with biting air and wind chills near 10°F gripping Marquette.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures near 19°F combined with light winds are keeping surfaces cold enough for any moisture to freeze quickly. While skies trend mostly sunny today, conditions remain primed for slick spots to develop late tonight as snow showers return.

Highs reach only 34°F this afternoon, offering limited melting. Roads may improve briefly under sunshine, but shaded areas and elevated surfaces can stay icy. Plan carefully if traveling early or late in the day.

Snow chances increase by Tuesday, with light snow showers possible between morning and early afternoon. Highs climb to around 39°F, but gusty winds up to 20 mph could reduce visibility at times.

Midweek brings a transition. Wednesday pushes temperatures near 40°F, introducing a mix of rain and snow showers. That mixed precipitation continues into Thursday, when a more widespread system develops.

By Thursday morning into the afternoon, rain and snow showers become likely, with precipitation chances reaching 60 percent. Roads along US-41 and M-28 could turn slushy, especially during heavier bursts.

As temperatures fall again Thursday night into the upper teens, any leftover moisture may refreeze quickly. That creates a risk for black ice heading into early Friday.

Drivers should stay alert for fast-changing conditions this week. Keep winter gear handy despite the calendar saying spring. What are road conditions like in your area right now?
