Albany, New York – Slick roads could develop before the Monday morning commute as rain tapers off overnight and patchy freezing drizzle forms across eastern New York.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, steady rain will continue through Sunday evening before gradually ending overnight. As temperatures hover near freezing, areas including the eastern Catskills, Mid-Hudson Valley, and parts of western New England could briefly see rain mix with or change to wet snow by early Monday morning.
The greater concern is patchy freezing drizzle, particularly across the southern Green Mountains and the Lake George-Saratoga region. While ice accumulation is expected to remain light, even a thin glaze could create hazardous travel on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses.
Cities including Albany, Poughkeepsie, Glens Falls, and Pittsfield may experience isolated slick spots during the early morning hours. Major routes such as I-87, I-90, and the Taconic State Parkway could see reduced traction before temperatures rise.
Drivers should allow extra travel time and use caution during the Monday morning commute. Conditions are expected to improve later in the morning, but additional advisories may be issued if icing becomes more widespread.
