Dayton, OH – A community-driven event supporting U.S. troops overseas is set for today in Montgomery County, offering residents a chance to donate supplies, enjoy a cookout, and connect with local veteran services.

According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the “Red, White, and Back the Brave” event will take place Thursday, May 8, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Sam’s Club, located at 1111 Miamisburg-Centerville Road in Washington Township, just south of Dayton.

The event is organized in partnership with Blue Star Mothers of the Miami Valley and focuses on collecting care package items for deployed service members. Attendees can bring pre-purchased care package supplies, donate cash, or contribute by purchasing items directly in-store.

Organizers say a Sam’s Club cookout will also be held on-site, with donations accepted to help fund meals and support efforts. The initiative aims to provide both physical goods and morale-boosting support to troops stationed overseas.

In addition to donation opportunities, the Montgomery County Recorder’s Office will be present to assist veterans with obtaining official identification cards. According to officials, veterans must bring a DD214 form along with another valid form of ID to receive their Veteran ID card during the event.

Community members who cannot attend in person can still contribute by purchasing care packages online through the Blue Star Mothers Miami Valley website.

The event brings together local organizations, law enforcement, and residents in a coordinated effort to support military personnel while also offering resources to veterans in the Dayton area.
