San Francisco, California – Residents in Contra Costa County could miss critical weather alerts right now as a key NOAA Weather Radio station remains offline due to a communications failure.
According to the National Weather Service San Francisco Bay Area office, station WNG655 (162.425 MHz) is down until further notice while technicians investigate the issue. This outage affects parts of the East Bay where the station typically provides continuous weather updates, warnings, and emergency alerts.
Officials say backup coverage is available through nearby transmitters, including 162.400 MHz from San Francisco and 162.550 MHz from Monterey. Additional transmitters serving the region include Big Rock Ridge (162.500 MHz) and Sonoma County (162.475 MHz), which may help fill gaps in coverage depending on location and terrain.
Communities in Concord, Walnut Creek, and surrounding areas are encouraged to switch to alternate frequencies immediately and ensure Wireless Emergency Alerts are enabled on mobile devices. Residents should also monitor local media and trusted apps for updates, especially during active weather periods.
The outage will remain in effect until repairs are completed. Additional updates are expected as technicians work to restore full service.
