La Crosse, Wisconsin – Strong to severe thunderstorms could disrupt travel and evening plans across western and southern Wisconsin by late Monday afternoon, with the highest impacts expected between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. along and south of Interstate 90.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, a Level 3 out of 5 severe storm risk covers parts of southwest Wisconsin and northeast Iowa. Storms are expected to develop Monday afternoon and intensify into the evening, with large hail and damaging wind gusts as the primary threats. A brief tornado cannot be ruled out.

Cities including La Crosse, Viroqua, Prairie du Chien, and areas toward Platteville and Dubuque face the greatest risk. Travel along I-90, U.S. Highway 14, and Highway 61 could become hazardous due to sudden downpours, reduced visibility, and debris from strong winds. Localized power outages are possible if wind gusts exceed 60 mph.

Residents should secure outdoor items, charge devices, and have multiple ways to receive warnings. If storms approach, move indoors immediately and avoid driving through heavy rain or downed tree limbs.

Storms will taper late Monday night, but additional updates are expected as timing and storm intensity become clearer.
