Tampa, Florida – Heat and spotty afternoon storms are set to return today, with brief downpours capable of slowing travel across inland areas by mid to late afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Tampa Bay, conditions remain mostly sunny and warm through the morning, with highs climbing into the mid to upper 80s and approaching 90 degrees in some inland locations. A sea breeze boundary will develop during the afternoon, triggering isolated showers and thunderstorms between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Storm activity will be most likely inland from Tampa and St. Petersburg, including areas along I-75 and toward Polk County and Orlando. While coverage remains limited—around 0 to 30 percent today and up to 40 percent Sunday—any storms that develop may produce brief heavy rain, lightning, and sudden drops in visibility.

Drivers should be prepared for quick-changing conditions on roads like I-4, I-75, and US-301 during the afternoon commute window. Outdoor plans may need brief adjustments as storms pass through.

Temperatures remain warm through Sunday with similar storm chances each afternoon. Residents should stay weather-aware, seek shelter when thunder is heard, and expect additional updates if storm coverage increases.
