Davenport, Iowa – A dangerous round of storms is set to arrive Monday afternoon, with the potential to disrupt travel, knock out power, and trigger flash flooding across eastern Iowa and western Illinois by the evening commute.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, the entire region is under a Level 3 out of 5 risk for severe weather Monday, with storms expected to intensify between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. All hazards are possible, including damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes. Forecasters note that early isolated storms could become more organized into lines later in the evening.
Heavy rainfall is also a major concern. Multiple rounds of storms from late Sunday night through Monday could produce 1.00 to 1.25 inches of rain or more, especially across northwest Illinois, including areas near Rockford and Sterling. This may lead to flash flooding on low-lying roads, as well as rising river levels along the Mississippi and Rock River basins.
Cities including Davenport, Bettendorf, Moline, Rock Island, and Iowa City should prepare for rapidly changing conditions. Major routes such as I-80, I-74, and US-61 could see reduced visibility, standing water, and hazardous driving during peak travel hours.
Residents should review severe weather plans, avoid flooded roadways, and ensure multiple ways to receive warnings. Conditions may continue to evolve, with additional updates expected by Monday morning as storm timing and intensity become clearer.
