Boston, Massachusetts – A late-season cold surge will drop temperatures across New England to near or below freezing overnight, creating frost risks and the potential for slick roads during early morning travel.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, a strong signal for below-normal temperatures will remain in place across Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, and Connecticut through early next week. While precipitation stays near normal, colder air will allow for winter-like impacts.

Boston is expected to fall to near 32°F during overnight hours, with inland areas dropping into the upper 20s. Cities including Worcester, Springfield, and Concord will see widespread frost potential, especially between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m., impacting early commutes.

Across northern New England, including Burlington and much of Maine, light snow showers are possible, particularly in higher elevations. In southern areas, including Hartford and Providence, patchy freezing rain or icy spots may develop on bridges and untreated roads.

Residents should cover sensitive plants, bring pets indoors during colder nights, and allow extra travel time during the morning commute. This colder pattern will persist through early next week, with additional advisories possible as temperatures remain below normal.
