Seattle, Washington – Cooler-than-normal air will hold across Washington through Friday and into the weekend, keeping temperatures 5 to 10 degrees below seasonal averages while much of the country heats up.
According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, Washington falls within a zone favoring below-normal temperatures through early next week, standing in sharp contrast to the widespread 35-state heat surge impacting the Southwest, Plains, and Southeast.
Seattle is expected to remain in the mid to upper 50s during the afternoon hours, with cloud cover and periodic onshore flow limiting daytime warming. Cities along the I-5 corridor, including Tacoma and Everett, will see similar conditions, while eastern Washington, including Spokane, may reach the low 60s but still trend below normal.
This cooler pattern extends across much of the Pacific Northwest and into parts of the northern Rockies, acting as a dividing line between the intense heat building to the south and east. Occasional light showers are possible, especially west of the Cascades, which could lead to damp roads during the morning commute.
Residents should plan for cool, layered conditions and allow extra travel time on wet roadways. The pattern is expected to hold through early next week, with additional updates possible if the temperature divide shifts east or west.
